Make Money Writing Online
Have you ever wondered how to make money writing online? After all, you hear the stories about people making hundreds and thousands a day by doing it.
Is it possible for the average, ordinary writer to make money this way? Yes and no — here’s why.
You can make gobs of money with online writing; no doubt about that. But it takes fortitude and commitment that many people don’t have. It also takes flexibility and an interest in researching different topics.
What Kinds of Writing Online?
Does your heart start beating fast when you think about building your own website? Are you intrigued with blogging? Do you want to do contract writing?
All these and more are possible ways to make money writing online. The question is, which one is right for you?
Contract (Freelance) Writing
This is probably the toughest way to earn a good writing income, but it also brings in money the fastest in the beginning. Basically, you register with one (or more) sites where writers are available for hire. People who need an article or web page (or whatever) written then fill out a form indicating what they want.
You would then bid on the writing, and if you win the assignment, you’ll be paid at the end of it when you turn it in and it’s accepted.
If you are:
- curious about a wide range of subjects
- write speedily and well
- can adapt to different writing styles at need
then you may have what it takes to become a successful online contract writer.
The downside of contract writing is that you generally aren’t paid very much, at least to start — $5 or $10 an article is about the going rate. On the other hand, once you make a name for yourself and people start requesting you, your prices can move up.

Blogging
Blogging for bucks is big news. There are all kinds of stories about people making hundreds or even thousands of dollars a day. Are the stories for real?
Yes, there are some bloggers who make a very good living with their blogging. The majority of people don’t…mainly because they don’t know how to blog.
Blogging is not just about writing about your family vacation; it’s about writing good information on a specific topic. Think of it as a miniature website. (You can see the define blogging page for a better understanding of how powerful this can be.)
Most bloggers in the money also have many blogs, on different topics. I’ve heard of people with 50 blogs! Some end up profitable, some not, so profitable — the only way to know for sure is to try them out (hence all the blogs). Check out this page if your are interested in how to make money blogging.
If you’re not used to blogging, your best bet is to get your feet wet by trying out some of the free blogging platforms. Here is a list of some free blog sites for you to check out.
A successful (profitable) blog also takes some research and tips on how to make a big “splash” publicity-wise.

Website
If blogs are too tame or you don’t want to write for someone else, websites are another way to make money writing online.
A website is slower than contract writing or even a blog to get earning, but it can far outstrip either over the long haul…if you choose a profitable topic and if you are prepared to write 200 or more pages about it.
Most people know that using a website to make money writing online is to pick keywords for your pages that have a reasonable demand, but little supply. But unless you have the online resources to find this information, there will be a lot of research needed up front.
