Your Own Website – You Can Do It
Have you wondered if you could make your own website — make money with a website that you built?
Have you given up on your dream because you aren’t technical, and didn’t want to learn “those” kinds of skills? You don’t have the time it takes to learn HTML or whatever it is. You don’t want to buy an expensive software package that you can’t use because it’s too complicated.
Or maybe you’re on the other side of the coin — you have the technical skills, but can’t seem to make money with any of the websites you’ve built? They’ve been whiz-bang great, but they don’t seem to get targeted traffic, so you don’t make many (if any) sales.
Perhaps you’d love to build a website, but you have nothing to sell? You can build a great site, get lots of targeted traffic, but if you have nothing to sell, you can’t make money. Or can you?
Yes, you can!
For this section of this website, I’m turning it over to my wife, Gail, who is the “web mistress” of the family.
Earn Money From Your Website 101
How to earn money from your website is probably the first thing you wonder about. After all, it is somewhat of an undertaking, and you don’t want to spend time on it, only to have no traffic and earn no money.
You can earn money from your website, and I’m living proof. You can even earn great money from a website, as in quit-your-9-to-5-job great. Yep, work from home, on your own schedule. Love what you do.
What has to happen to be able to make money with your website? Aside from your own website you need:
- Targeted traffic — people are finding you when they do a search on Google or MSN or another search engine.
- Good content — you want people to come back again, and tell their friends about your website.
- Something to offer. If you have a product you can sell, great! But you can still make good money even if you have no product at all (that’s what I do on my websites).
Sound like a tall order? It can be if you don’t have something or someone to guide you. When you have a guide (whether a person, videos or through reading), it can become much easier.
Make Your Own Website — What’s Involved?
To make your own website you need the following:
- An idea for a website — what is your biggest, best interest?
- A place for your website to live — a web host.
- A way to get your words onto the website for everyone to see.
Now this is really simplified, but it’s what has to happen.
Now you can choose to use a free web hosting service, but if you want to earn money — don’t bother. Free web hosting services tend to be ignored by the search engines and they are hard to customize so that your site looks well put together.
That leaves paid hosting services with your own domain name — much better for you and your earnings. Hosting can start as little as $4 a month or go all the way up to $200 a month or more, depending on what you need. Rest assured, very few people who make their own website need the $200/month service!
