Can Google Adwords Create More Business For You?

As a small business owner (I’m a DUI lawyer in Seattle) I am constantly looking for new ways to generate revenue. Like many other businesses, I don’t necessarily have a lot of repeat business (I hope not at least). Every day I have to find new potential clients from the everyday man out there.

Very generally, marketing for clients to my business fall into two broad categories – internet marketing and non-internet marketing. The internet marketing has been the most crucial, as most people now turn to Google to find people like me. In addition to the content I create, I also looked into using Google adwords.

When I started the campaign I was skeptical. I’d heard that people didn’t click on the ads for the most part (located at the top and right side of a Google search page). I’d heard as many as 85% of people just skip right over them. But I tried it out all the same.

Even though I wasn’t real confident adwords would provide any boost to my criminal defense practice, I thought I’d give it a shot. What I found when the ads were running wasn’t very surprising. A lot of people don’t click on the ads. A lot of people just glance right over them (or glance over mine). People do click, but not a lot.

One thing I didn’t totally take into account, however, was how easy it is to turn a profit with adwords. With adwords, you only pay every time someone clicks on your ad. Otherwise it just sits out there, waiting. You can set a monthly budget so you don’t lose your shirt, and all it takes is one click to help you make money.

For me, I’d say Google adwords works. It is inexpensive, it is efficient, and it doesn’t take much money going out to get a lot of money coming. It is even more effective in a business like mine, where people might not know a criminal attorney or would be afraid to ask their friends if they have any recommendations. That’s when they go to Google, type in Seattle DUI lawyer, and start clicking away.
